The 4th Monday of every month, a group of households from Providence Church gather at an area assisted living facility, Pekin Manor, to share the love of Jesus through song and fellowship. We call this event our Pekin Manor Outreach.
In our day, the elderly are often overlooked and discarded, but the Bible tells us that they are a source of wisdom (Job 12:12) and fruitfulness (Psalm 92:12-15). There is so much we can learn from our elderly brothers and sisters. This is just one of the reasons that promote inter-generational worship at Providence.
And, in many retirement homes, there are those who need to hear of the love of God expressed through the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of His Son, Jesus. It is never too late to share the Gospel!
Over the years that we have been meeting with the residents of Pekin Manor, we have developed some real friendships. Each month, we renew these friendships and make new ones! And, each Pekin Manor event is followed by a time of fellowship and ice cream, hosted by one of our member families. So there are many opportunities to fellowship together.
Here are a few photos from our January 2011 event. We encourage you to pray about visiting a retirement community with your family. See what Jesus can do through you!
