Let me tell you about our church ::
On behalf of the elders and community of Providence Church, I would like to welcome you to our website! We pray the Lord will encourage you as you walk through these pages. Let me tell you a little bit about what you would find, should you choose to visit our church.
The Westminster Shorter Catechism notes that man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. To that end, our worship is designed to be grounded in God’s Word, done for God’s glory, and empowered by the grace and Spirit of Christ. It is our prayer that all who worship with us experience the power of the Triune God! Learn more about our philosophy on worship here.
At Providence Church, we seek to enjoy the Lord as we grow together in God’s grace and truth. We are a community of saints who strive to live in unity with one another, while understanding that we are to be witnesses of the power of God to a lost world. Our desire is to see the Gospel message spread to every household in Central Illinois, and beyond! If you ever do come and worship with us, plan on staying for lunch. Each week, right after worship, we enjoy a wonderful shared meal. It is arguably the best meal you can find in Central Illinois on a Sunday afternoon.
Providence is also a church that encourages all who come to participate – regardless of age. We are a generationally-inclusive church, thus children are not sent away from the rest of the church during the worship hour. We do provide space for parents with nursing infants and we have “mother’s helpers” ready to assist if your hands are full. But it is amazing how quickly children learn to worship the Lord. And more than that, they love it! As Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” To this we say, “Amen and amen!”
Most importantly, if you do not know Jesus, you can come to know Him here. Jesus said in John 17:3, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” It was Saint Augustine who said that our hearts are restless until they find rest in God. He was right, because we were made in the image and likeness of God and are not really content until we are at rest in Him. At Providence Church, your aching heart can find that rest in God through faith in Jesus Christ. Learn more about Jesus and the Christian faith here.
The leadership of Providence Church is committed to communicating the truths of the Bible to the end that all come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. It is only through trusting in Jesus that one can be truly free of the burden of sin and equipped to live a victorious life.
We are also a member congregation of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, a group of churches committed to living out doctrinal truth for the glory of God.
If you would like to learn more about our church, feel free to give me a call. We are here to serve you – as we serve Jesus!
For the Kingdom,
Pastor James McDonald
